Three Rides with John O’Brien

Big Tree Rec Site
Tuesday July 27

Took the first left off of the logging road beyond the Beaver Pond.
Rode up Skullduggery, left on Easy Street, and right on Over Easy.  (the trail that we rode down on Patrick’s ride) and at the spot where we felt we should have turned left (on Patrick’s ride) we, riding up, turned right onto Desoto Ridge (here the trail continues to climb and soon traverses across a clear-cut on a very thin Manninesque line.)  The trail then descends through a very twisty narrow course back to the logging road.

Up the logging road and then left up Frogger (the steep single track that Patrick took us on), which then leads down to the Telus service road. Up the service road and right onto Brat (the trail that we were short changed on).  Now when we got to the fork in the trail we again turned right-but just before the cut block we turned left onto Easy Street and then right onto Skullduggery and back to the Beaver Pond.

Across to Parbac and back to the truck.

The ride took two and half hours, over 15 km with an average speed of 8 km/h

Up Scatter Bones to the power lines, across and then left on Duracell to the gas right-of-way.  Half a km later right on Dr. Dave (crosses the creek that drains Crawston Lake), up past the trailer and on to Big Tree Park.  From there around the Beaver Pond across to Parbac and up VFR which joins with the lower part of Addernach, left on Lee’s Big Easy, back to the power lines a along Scatter Bones to the truck.

The loop is 11km however with a miss turn and some side exploration we rode 15km in two and half hours.

Past the Beaver Pond, left off of the logging road up to the Cut Block, and up to Patrick’s Turn.  Around and down to the logging road 1.6 km back to the Beaver Pond, across to ParBac, VFR, Addernach and back up the single track to Big Tree Park.

14 ½ km in 2 ½ hours.
Note: There is a trail that comes in from the left where Skullduggery joins Easy Street which most likely starts at the Logging Road.  Further exploration required.

Beaver Pond to Skullduggery, then right on Easy Street to see where it leaves the Logging Road.  Back to Skullduggery, over to Parbac, up VFR, down Addernach and Lee’s Big Easy.  Up Duracell to Dr. Dave and Left on Double D.  I rode up the gas right-of-way, found a left that took me to the power line right-of-way with no obvious trails for another km.  Turned around up DD left onto Shake Cutters and back to the car.

16 km in 2 hours.
