4 Rides in the North Cascades

Mission Ridge

Weather:  Sunny !
Temperature:  20 to 25 on the way up, dropping to 11 as we started down.
Start time: 11:00
Who rode?  Lee, Manny, Ed, Patrick, Nick, Steve, Dane, and John.

Route: 700 m and 14 km to the top. (2 hours and 10 min of riding)  Around 3 o'clock we lost the trail and try as we may the trail did not present its self.  At 5-5:30 we turned around and road back to Ed's truck.  It was an exciting rip down the road.

Trail Conditions: The road is growing over, but still in great shape. A few blow-downs across the road and in the Burn.  The Burn is very sketchy. The trail is easily lost and the trail bed soft and loose.
Maximum Elevation: 1900 m
Distance: 40 km
Total Time: Eight and half hours!
Note: Next year we need trail markers/tape and Ian's GPS route.

Coyote Canyon -Friday's Ride

Weather:  Sunny !
Temperature:  20 to 17
Start time: 1:00

Who rode?  Same as yesterday, with Rob, Ian, Gord and Tom joining in.
Route: 8 km and 620 m to the top.

Trail Conditions: Lovely as always.
Maximum Elevation: 1650 m
Distance: 16 km
Total Time: 5 hour.

Trail Improvements: Cut the only tree across the trail and improved the site lines for the rip down.

Hard Rock -Saturday's ride

Weather:  Sunny again.
Temperature:  23 at the start  and 12 to 17 in the forest and up top.
Start time: 11:00
Who rode?  Same as Friday- with Robin, Bret, and Furio also along for the ride

Route: The trail head is at 1525 m and Dave's 1035 m.  That's 500 m to the good! The top is 2225 m with a total climb of 850 m.

Trail Conditions: Really, really good.
Maximum Elevation: 2225 m
Distance: 34 km
Total Time: Eight hours!
Note: I think that our river crossing takes best advantage of the topography.  We just need to establish a trail from the landing to the last road section and then clear a route to the river.

Bermuda Triangle -Monday's ride

Weather:  Sunny !!
Temperature:  23 in the sun and out of the wind.  11 to 17 in the forest.
Start times: 9:30 and 11:15
Who rode?  Lee, Robin and I went the long way (up Coyote Canyon), Ed, Dane, Manny, Ian, Tom, Steve, John, Nick, Gord, and Rob took the short-cut up Stairway to Heaven.

Route: The long way is about 54 km with average rolling speed of 7.7 km/hr.  1900 m of climbing and 2200m of beautiful descent!

Trail Conditions: Excellent. Yesterday's rain helped firm-up the trail surface.  Sweet and sticky.
Maximum Elevation: 2125 m
Distance: 42 or 54 km
Total Time: Eight to ten hours!

Note: It doesn't get better than this.
